Hi ppl

I have decided that i wana do a light tint on my car.
Need some advice so here is a few questions.

1)which different brands do you get and what is the difference. pros and cons
2)what % colour do you get them in and which i legal.
3)how much do they charge nowadays.
4)any decent guys in cpt that can do it at a reasonable price.
5)do they take out all your windows to do it.

Basically its for the hot sun to cool it off, keep away thieves and for the look of course.

Thanks

1. Llumar... you don't want any other brand of film.
2. Most common legal variants are clear (pointless, no visual deterrent), 50% and 35%, with 35% being the darkest.
3. Depends on who you know and where you go, but expect R1,800 - R3,000.
4. Dunno - phone a couple of new car dealers & ask them who they use.
5. They don't remove the windows themselves; at most a few bits of trim to get to the bottom edge.

Hi

Where are you based?

I know a really good window tiniting business in JHB, around the Goldreef area. El- Guard. PM and I will send you his contact details.

He does all the work for Unitrans (i.e. VW dealership) or most of them
Thanks

Um... can you have both smash and grab and tint installed? How much does that cost?

Won't a tint effectively act as a smash & grab anyway? They're both films.

Maybe, perhaps it comes down to the strength of plastic used in each type of film, or the thickness.

I always thought that Smash and Grab acted as a tint since it absorbs light. But, I never considered that the smash and grab layer itself might in fact be clear.

One and the same - some people don't like the look of darker windows, hence the availability of clear film. However, I think it's daft to forego the visual deterrent factor - if some undesirable is waltzing through rush hour traffic, looking for a window to smash, he'll rather go for clear than one with an obvious tint.
