I have a small adapter that connects to the cigarette lighter in the car, i can plug a USB cable and charge my phone, however, when navigating, the phone consume more power then it getting.
I tested the cable , on my pc while the navigation was on and it was charging fine.

looks like i'll need a new charger....any recommendations?
I dont wanna buy something and have this problem again....

I actually also bought one over the weekend. I was told they come as a single port which has an output of 1amp for cellphones or
dual port which has a 1amp port and a 2.1 or 3.1amp port for tablets. Maybe buy using the higher rated port the cellphone will charge faster.

In my experience...

The car charger I got struggled to charge my phone.
Then I plugged the cable in to the GPS's charger(USB socket connection), and it works great. :)

would you mind telling me what did you buy and from where?

I have a TomTom 3 in 1 car charger as per below:

The fast charge port is 2.1amp and charges my phone despite very heavy use. Think they're around R150 from Game etc.

Out of own experience my phones wouldn't charge in a car charger that works with a usb cable. Got a R40 Micro USB car charger with a fixed cable at Cell C and works like a dream.
