Car wash pressure spraying your engine safe?

The other day I just took the car for a wash and go as I got some mud on the front etc. After pressure spraying and washing the car, the guy asked me to please open the hood and turn the engine on. He then proceeded to pressure spray the engine for a pretty good while. Is that OK to do? The engine does look sparkling clean again, just like the day I got it. But dont want to let them do it again if it can harm the engine?

water can get in the electrics and cause issues later on,

but also depends, if the electrics are sealed up well, or not, if your cars new its not so bad, but after a few years not a great idea

Some cars should have certain parts covered with plastic to be safe. Personally, I'm happier using a degreaser and a normal hose - not pressure washer - to clean the engine.

Get yourself some Prepsol @Ockie. It comes in a handy 500ml bottle at Builders.

When the engine is warm open the bonnet and wet the engine with a fine mist spray from your garden hose.
Then shake the Prepsol bottle and spray the engine (the bottle is made from soft flexible plastic and once shaken the liquid foams up). Cover the whole engine with this foam.
Leave it to settle for 45 minutes.
Rinse it off with your garden hose.

Seriously though. Prepsol for the win. Amazing stuff. And the low pressure from your garden hose to rinse it off wont cause havoc with your electrics.

Not only can pressure spraying get into the electronics, but it can also damage hoses which can cause you to lose engine coolant and then your motor will blow a gasket quicker than people's responses to a spur incident.
