Friday they broke into my car, smashed the passenger window, luckily didn't take anything (because there is nothing to take...)

Went to Santam this morning and they said I have to have the window replaced in Epping at one of their "partners" for me to be able to claim it from insurance. Isn't this somehow against the consumer protection act? How can they specify where I can have my window replaced? Epping is in the complete opposite direction I commute, so I have to make a special trip just to get it replaced. What is the difference in the end of the day?

You can replace it anywhere you wish. That person didn't inform you correctly. Phone them and ask.

I know that if you use one of their recommended glass fitters your excess may be waivered.

Glass Lab/Granmark auto glass and Santam then no excess
PG Glass / Glasfit you will pay an excess
IMO The first is not as good as Glasfit/PG Glass products

This is probably the reason for them steering you to a service provider, and no effectively the shouldn't dictate to where you go to but benefits could be for you.
