So I currently have an older Astra that is less than reliable and not awesome in the fuel efficiency department. It has 190K on the clock. I was hoping to drive it for another 2-3 years and then replace it but then I got to thinking if I replaced it with something more fuel efficient perhaps the savings would offset the costs a lot. Current fuel efficiency on the Astra is about 8.8 Lp100km. Reading around a lot and seeing whats on the forum I was thinking replacing it with a second hand/demo model Honda Jazz might be worth it. What is the fuel efficiency of the Jazz for non-pro drivers in the city and on the open road? Curious if the saving is as big as claimed. Not sure if I believe the fuel economy stats published in the paper as those are probably the pro econo drivers stats.

You can't go wrong with a Jazz. Very spacious interior, very well made, and is a pleasure to drive.

I drove the 1.5 i-Vtec quite a lot at one stage - even drove it from Pretoria down to Margate. Average fuel consumption was around 6.5l/100km in city with a bit of highway driving. I'm sure the 1.3 is more economical.

The Jazz is a far better drive than an i20 - feels a lot more solid on the road, and doesn't feel as 'plasticy' as some of it's Korean counterparts.

Jazz is good, but if you do not need the space that much then i10 is an excellent car to consider.

Does anyone know the rough trade in value of a 2003 1.6l Astra hatch back with 190K on the clock? Its in decent condition and I am getting dings etc removed pre-sale. I know it varies a lot but just a rough estimate would be great.

A few years ago I wanted to trade in my 2001 with 190,000km on the clock and they offered my R39500. I think privately you will be able to sell them for about R40k, maybe R45k if you are lucky.
