Hi i want to buy a graphics card as a gift. Currently the person has a 8600Gt. Now i want to get something a bit better but not something thats going to make me broke i was thinking like maybe the 9600Gt... any ideas

Looking to spend around R1500 preferably under though:D

Is this a sexy person? ;) :D :p Look at the new ATI range.

Says the guy with the 8800GT. In my eyes, they are exactly the same card, just a different name.

Maybe have a look if the ATI 4670 is faster than that card (/me to lazy now). If not, take that card, cause the ATI 4850 goes for around R2200...

Is ATI really back in the running?

For ages now.

For that price range the HD3870 or 9600GT. Both perform about the same. Get whichever you can get cheaper. Prophecy have the 3870 for R1300.

Both will be a MASSIVE upgrade over the 8600GT.

Ah yes, after checking Toms Harware I see the ATI Radeon HD 4850 CF is the card to get.

3870 outperforms the 4670.

The op should make sure the dood's psu can handle a better card.

Eh I bought my 8800gt b4 the ATI hype. Had I waited a month or two, I probably would've picked up a 4870 or 4850 instead.
Tho I still like my 8800gt :)

Im hoping its not a dood, but rather an extremely sexy chick that loves PC games... Ofcourse the last part kind of makes this idea void.

Er, why would you want to judge cards "in your eyes". The 8800GT isn't the same as the 9600GT, it's the same as the 9800GT. It's also quite a bit faster than the 9600GT, I don't really understand how your eyes can see anything different. :p

I'd also go with the HD3870 if you can still get it at a good price. Prophecy is closed until January so that isn't an option and I don't see anyone else with good prices on them. Otherwise the HD4670 or 9600GT preferably if you can afford it.
