Hi Guys

Was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on what would be the best route to take.

I currently have 2 oppurtinities to work for different companies.

The first company I will be the IT Manager looking after their servers and Network. Most of the time I'll be doing desktop support but will also be involved in bugeting and everything that goes with managing the IT department.

The second company I will be involved in project roll outs. So my technical experience will improve masively as I will be involved with all the new technologies.

The first company will pay quite a bit more plus the working enviroment is a little better. The second company doesn't have a bad working enviroment thou.

What would be the best route to take career wise?

Try and find which company is doing better, better pay is good but if it only lasts a few months then lower pay is better if it lasts for 10 years.

I'd say go with option 1. Management experience ALWAYS looks good on a CV. And the pay is better :D

Company be I will become a Project manager after a couple of months.

Try and find which company is doing better, better pay is good but if it only lasts a few months then lower pay is better if it lasts for 10 years.

Both companies are doing well even in the recession so I don't think that will make a difference.

Go for 2. It has the best long-term benefits. Invest in your head rather than bling (which higher pay allows you). You take your head everywhere and you will always be marketable. 1 just seems routine and well-paid. Don’t sell your future for bling!

1. Seems good for managing etc to add to your resume

2. Seems good if you want to be involved in project management + maybe move up to infrastructure roll out which is and will be good long term(there is a growing push for african rollout and a lot of companies remain based here.. but work there) esp if can hop up the ladder to another company when u find you not learning much and stagnating.

i'd choose 2, but then i always favour technical positions as i'm not a strictly office person.
