I need some career advice and welcome any inputs.
I have been developing software for 10 years now( I'm in my mid 30's) using Delphi, HTML, JavaScript, XML, Firebird and can I can help myself with MS SQL Server when necessary. This was all done in small companies where from analysis to design and coding was done by myself, basically becoming the "manager" of the application and adding new features and analysing new customer requests and add to the software. As far as I am concerned, that means I also have Business Analysis and project management experience, although it not being with formal UML, State, ERD, PERT etc graphs, kind of a RAD environment. The past 2 years I was also managing bugs and feature priorities for the other applications developed by the company and managing the 2 other developers and sitting in in management meetings, representing the Development team. Basically, I was the Development Manager, but again, not officialy dictating development methodology and applying any of the official tools available.
Would you with the above criteria, apply for Development Manager positions, or if not that, Business Analysis positions. I also have B.Com IS degree where we covered all the methodologies, project management and diagrams?
A second question, I made a move 2 months ago to a large retailer where I was going to "modernize" their internal retail and financial software and I though I could work my way up, but then when I arrived here I was told they in the mean time decided to replace the internal software with 3rd party software and that there is no long term prospects for me. So I am actively seeking employment again, but not sure if I should list my current position on my CV. Will it not look bad, being 2 months at a place and trying to find a position again, or how should I indicate my reason for wanting to leave?
Thank for reading all of this.
