Hi there. Sorry if this is in the wrong section admin feel free to move it.

Im in my final year of highschool and need some help with somebody that works in the field of IT. What course(s) would I need to study to become an IT Technician.

Thanks in advance to all that took the time to answer.

as the above folks have mentioned A+ and N+ and then experience. pretty easy field..

would suggest specialising rather in a field.

Yeah, take a look at virtualization as a specialized field, big shortage of really good VM guys (VMware etc). Its kinda IT Technician stuff

I spent a year at Boston City Campus. Did an IT Tech certification course. The next year, after months of searching, I finally got a job as a junior IT Tech. I'm currently a senior IT tech. I believe I was really lucky to land the job I did with only an A+ and N+. My networking skills (you know, the kind that has to do with meeting people in the IT field and taking their numbers) helped me land that job. So this is a step in the right direction. As has been mentioned before, get more certificates/exams after your A+ and N+. Those will come in handy!
Good luck to you! There's an entire world out there after high school, and it won't be easy to make it into this field in particular. There are many who dive into it simply because they heard that IT is the future and there are jobs. If you are passionate about this field, you will succeed!

Nice...

Sincere candidates, don't they stand out?

Wow, nobody warning him/her about the career pitfalls.

Was going to do it but thought it would be a huge downer on his dream job, but here goes:

IT Technician:
* **** work
* **** pay
* **** hours
* **** everything

Enjoy!

Register for a degree in something that you enjoy. IT is ok, but the market is oversaturated now.

Sadly IT Technician isn't really a career choice these days. If I could suggest a really lucrative and fun discipline it would be in the IT security field.

Software development is a passion that either you have or don't have.

BI is getting big and if you have an interest in statistics you will be well prepared.

Sysadmin can also be a possible career choice but they are often overlooked in SA.
