Well I have made a fairly big choice to possibly leave my job for an intern position,

It seemed like a great idea, the intern career could eventually pay really well and slots in with my diploma, however leaving a career 7 years in the making is scary as hell.

The poor pay means I would probably need to dig a little into my provident.

Any advice?

What do you do now, and what are you moving to?

It is an investment in your happiness. Its a calculated risk, but if you know what you are doing, then it is worth it.

MIS analyst in a call centre, the role exists within the UK but there seems to be an obvious salary cap, although I do not detest my job, its definitely not what I would call fulfilling.

The internship is Linux/Cloud based, which seems to be a fairly future proof career as well as having a lot more branches I can move into.

I do currently have kickass benefits, decent bonus and a decent salary, all which will go poof.

Go for it! Can always go back to the old career if need be, with some interesting experience in the meantime. I recently also thought that doing internships is possibly better than spending money on another degree/certification. You have to "spend" saved money either way, but the one gives you actual job experience.

It'll be tough to match what I am leaving (at least in this country), I worked my way up and we aren't known for re-employing people who have left. Provident, medical aid, large bonus. Its a scary move. Will probably go for it anyway :)

When are you leaving SA?

You may not be doing your job opportunities in your new country any favours.

Think about it - who is more marketable - the guy with 7 years of experience or the guy with 1? Why would anyone hire an old, inexperienced foreigner when they can give a young local the job?

Well I wouldn't call 30 old, but I get what you're saying, this would be valid if the job market was saturated. Also I don't lose my 7 years experience when I move into IT, I just gain new skills to add to what I have.
