Career in Project Management?

Hi guys, i'm thinking about doing a course in Project management and hopefully make the career switch to management in a couple of years time.
i need some advice.
What is the best course and/or place to do it? I was thinking about doing a BTech Degree in Project management at CPUT, the course is very expensive though!
Would a short course be a better option?

I have noticed that a few of my friends did Project management when they left school at Technicon. NONE of them are working in that field.

Then again we have guys here at MTN that rakes in $$$$$$$$$$$$ in that field. I have no knowledge of the field but I think it's a very tough field to get into even if you have the Docs ;)
 
I have the one at CPUT, and must say it was quite difficult. For me it helped me allot to manage my own projects, but i'm more of a developer so i dont see myself going into that field anytime soon.

How long did it take you to complete that course and what carrer oppurtunities do you have when you graduate?

I think i have the right personality for it and i am kind of passionate about the whole management thing.
The paycheque part is a factor, but not the deciding factor.

i basically want to get into management without waiting 10-15 years to get promoted by my company. So i want to do a course that will get me into a junior manager or junior project manager position within the next 3-4 years time.

I am seeing two different things here:

1. You want to get into management
2. You want to do a Project Management course

Getting into a management position in a company is WWAAYYYY different to being a Project Manager. Which one are you interested in exactly?

Electrical Engineering Project Management to be exact.
I thaght management was just short for project management:(
 
Yes, a bit like a Software Architect is different from an Architect, a Project Manager is a bit different from a Manager.

Managers
manage people

Project managers
manage projects not people.
(If I need a certain thing done I get a Project manager in to have it done.)

Yip, basically thats it ... but a Project Manager manages resources (people on the project) as well, but only in relation to that project. Once they are off the project, they are managed by "normal" managers again

You got 100% correct, I just couldn't put it in such a way ;)

Look at the TV show which has that ugly Bold rich guy.
That is Project management :D

It took me 4 years, but PM was just one of my subjects. All and all I can basically go into any IT carreer, but I'm more of a dev guy.
