How do you get experience in Durban, Iv done A+ and N+ via Damilen, I read it’s not worth doing the international exam for those courses.. so since I am unable to get experience with those courses going to try getting Mcitp its about 30k, I did not understand N+ to well but somehow passed for the long term is it better to study now or still try and get experience, even offered to work for a company for free and they rejected . Sorry if its not in the right section.
Thanks in Advance.

too bad its so hard to get experience of this field in South Africa :(

If you still live with your parents and you're desperate, you could try what I did...

Worked at nights at a bar for my income and went to a company I liked (I needed 6 months training for my qualification's prac side) and after turning me down, I told them I'd be willing to work for free to get experience. Needless to say they hired me. A month later I was on their payroll.

Just a thought.

Great commitment.
Glad they payed you after a month.
That is true passion for IT.

If I did that at my current employer they probably would've had me working there for free till I was grey and needed a wheel chair to move around :p

Hey, I have just completed my A+ and now going to start my N+. I am not writing the exams because I feel that parts of both these courses are really basic. Having family and friends in IT, they reaffirmed to me that saying to an employer that you have an A+ gives them an indication that you have started with IT from scratch. The reason I am going this route and still studying them is to really get my mind surrounded by basics and make sure that all the fundamental info is ready to be used when I begin my CCNA.

I have also organised 2 internships during the week so I can get hands on prac experience. My plan then is to head back to London where I have been living for the past 3 years and try to begin a career. I do feel that it has been daunting trying to decide exactly what I want to do, but taking all things in consideration becoming a Network Engineer sounded up my alley with my prior knowledge and IT history. After speaking to more people I have been recommended to specialise in security as there is a massive niche in the job market. Sounds good, but need to take it as it comes with how I progress and into which avenue.

If I were you I would keep applying for internships, email, phone, do what you can. And be sure to tell the possible future employer that you are busy studying to become certified in whatever and you are looking to work for free. On their terms.
Good luck, I hope me being in the same situation has helped you

This must be the definition of bad luck most Durban companies won’t let me work for free something about ” insurance” basically if I get hurt or damage anything they not covered.
Meh maybe I’ll do a diploma in programming at varsity college, hopefully that route works out better

Thanks to whoever contributed
