I have seen a few ICO's that I have been interested in from the perspective that the project is interesting. This is one of those. However, what ALWAYS irritates me is that they never make it clear what the tokens get you.... do these represent equity in the business or is this just another case of selling people the currency that the fees will be paid in....

I work for a company where something like this would be magical.

You get cheap early access to a token that can be traded on exchanges.
That's all.

I have no issue trading these tokens, however - I think (and hope) we'll start seeing a shift away from these business-critical utility tokens being traded on exchanges.

This applies to all crypto and not just ICOs.
SEC sees majority of cryptocurrencies as Securities. Even those tokens that have real-world use cases and a proven utility since day 1.
Most of Altcoins are just a way for developers to get a LARGE funding via their ICO and they don't need a native token for their platform/project.
As for us investors we are just speculating and buying them in hope of profit. and the best profits are in "good" ICOs.
