Johannesburg - Carl Niehaus, the former ANC spokesperson, has disappeared.

A week after the sheriff of the court claimed his belongings from a luxurious rental home in Midrand, Niehaus moved out and the owner of the house, Eric Corbishley, has been unable to track him down.

Niehaus still owes him R300 000 in rental money. Corbishley's lawyer, Jannie Coetzee, confirmed that he had employed agents to find Niehaus.

Coetzee said there was "a queue" of people who had been defrauded by Niehaus and were looking for him to try and recover money.

Another creditor, advertising agency Mortimer Harvey, had given up hope of getting back money Niehaus owed them.

CEO Dave Mortimer said he had heard nothing from Niehaus since February. He had won a court case against Niehaus, but the money has not been paid.

Niehaus also owes Cheryl Clur, a travel agent from East London, R90 000 for a luxury island holiday dating back to 2003.

Niehaus's lawyer, Ian Small-Smith, said he had seen his client two days ago but wouldn't say where he was.

"He is getting treatment. He feels he has let the ANC down terribly," said Small-Smith.

Ah ok 1.9 with sponge baths. Not to mention the retirement perk spent lazing back and smoking big fat cigars on a golfing estate.
 
Maybe he stowed away on Castro's boat back on its way to Cuba..the land of cigars, latina's ..while Millions try to escape Cuba..he's busy breaking in :)
