So.... to day is the first 'wintery' day - foggy and dark in Cape Town and the roadworks on the dreaded R300 are in full swing. I am looking forward to driving to work on a decent highway.
However, I would like to know what the authorities are going to do about the suicidal pedestrians who run across this road every day. I must admit, I have had nightmares about crashes with road runners.
Does anyone know when the roadworks will be completed?

Aparently on Saturday someone had an accident there and the car was torn in two. Unfortunately the authorities rather blame the symptom (speed) than the cause (roadworks).

Highway crossing pedestrians seem to be a Cape Town phenomenon. I grew up in JHB and can't remember it ever happening (I'm sure it does but it's not a given or norm there). It must be an education thing. It's not like there are no bridges over the road. They've just built 2 new ones.

Have to agree that speed is an issue on the R300. The limit there is mostly 80 (often 60) but most folks drive at least 100.

people do cross it in JHB, and it is very dangerous...

And if it happens at night, they'll check if you're drunk as well  Same with the N2. No pedestrians allowed on national roads, but hit one in the dark and they'll first check if you haven't perhaps been speeding.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
