So, I was at the ECR Business Breakfast yesterday. Dion Chang was chatting on about new trends, and interestingly went on to say that a plethora of European auto manufacturers have aligned themselves with Apple CarPlay, while the Eastern auto guys seem to favour Android Auto.

This prompted me to go google hunting.

Found this http://www.wired.com/2014/06/carplay-android-auto-automakers/ and this http://www.techtimes.com/articles/16590/20140926/android-auto-carplay-compared-one-want-car.htm

I reckon this will make for an interesting next few years.

Expect the guys with the Apple CarPlay systems to get lost. A lot.
And expect the okes with the Android Auto systems to have less polished third party apps and when they wish to upgrade the app the only way would be to buy a whole new car. :)

Lol yes; this will be interesting going fan. I'm on iOS man so me its a no brainer. A fair of cars are supporting; or plan to support; both systems as well.

I wonder if these will be offered as optional extras on new cars.

As long as you have the option for both or android only :D, would be crazy to have ios only, then you must have an iphone to use your cars software.

Ah yes the new ‘human-machine interface’. It’s a touchscreen that’s superbly powerful and responsive, with very smooth tablet-style graphics and gestures. Satnav and a net connection are standard, and you can pair it with Apple Carplay and, later Android Auto. - See more at: http://www.topgear.co.za/car-review...eborn-and-revolutionary/#sthash.9LmoHcMu.dpuf

I'm almost happy now. By disabling "Permit drawing over other apps" in AA I can have it running on the car and still use TomTom Go on my phone in the cradle.

I suspect the landscape may have changed since 2014 when those articles were written.
