Guys, please let me know if you have any idea about this.

I received a quote from a honda servicing centre about carrier bearing replacement (and associated shaft seal replacement) for about 8000 rands (incl. vat). Car is honda civic 2004. Labour 8+ hours. Is this reasonable cost? Do any of you know of any reliable servicing centres in Midrand area?

The car clearly isn't under warranty anymore..

Take it to an independent mechanic, it will be cheaper. I would also question the 8 hour labour quote, that sounds excessive to me...

If it's a quote from a stealership, then it's probably wildly excessive. Go to an independent service station/mechanic

8 hours? I'm sure its possible to disassemble and reassemble the entire car in that time :p

Thanks everyone who replied. Yes, it is 2004 year car so not under any warranty whatsoever. @ghostbuster, thanks - will check with jdmtuning.

If it's something like this I can't see it costing R8k

If it's a different carrier bearing (part of differential etc) then it would cost more due to labour getting the critter in and out.
