I know most of you hate these, but this is actually a pretty decent road test at reef - with a hot laptime around Kyalami for a full picture.

http://www.carsinaction.net/FullTest.asp?cat=5&m=

Interesting - but one or two have some really odd figures - like the Mazda3 MPS - wtf? :/

Lots of interesting results.
MK6 Gti is slower than the 147kw Scirroco... they have the exact same engine but VW claim the Roc is pushing 147kw... by these results they obviously lieing.

Those Corsa OPC stats are funny!!! Ill kill that!!!

I wish my cars time was up there... but I know I can break into the 7s easy.

Very interesting reading.

And it makes perfect, logical sense that your 110KW/220nm Polo GTI (tested at 8.24 seconds) can beat the 141KW/230nm Opel OPC (tested at 7.85 seconds). It boggles my mind why people wouldn't believe you ...

How did you manage better VAGs time anyhow? Is the launch the only secret - or is there more to it?

141kw/266nm @ overboost ;)

JK8, is your Polo stock?

how come there no fords on that list ? specifically my awesome ford laser ;)

These guys don't know how to drive, that is for damn sure:

Marque/Model Acclr. (0-100) Std. Quarter 80-120 (s) 120-160 (s) Hot Lap
Volkswagen Golf VI GTI* 6.50 14.5 @ 160.6 6.10 4.00 2m08.2
Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG 4.90 13.1 @ 182.9 2.60 4.30 2m10.5

According to them the Mercedes with a V12, Twin Turbo 451 kW/1000Nm which is rear wheel drive, is slower than a Golf VI GTI. BAHAHAHAHA. LOOOOOOOOOL.

Seriously? Who drives these things, a clown?

Um.

The GTI is slower at 6.5 seconds to 100km/h ; the Mercedes 4.9 seconds to 100km/h. The 1/4 mile is also almost 1.5 seconds quicker on the Merc - and the exit speed 22km/h quicker as well :/

For a car with a manufacturer claim of 4.4, I don't think 4.9 is a terrible time

Hence my problem, the car has faster acceleration, more power, more torque, better brakes, it's front engine rear wheel drive which is the best configuration for a race track and it's beaten by a car with front engine front wheel drive configuration, the worst layout for race track.

How on earth did they accomplish that. Maybe they take some cars around only once or some such.

Honestly Top Gear Power Laps are better imho.

In terms of straight line speed the merc is faster. But in terms of lap times it might not necessarily be the case. Then it comes down to a host of other factors. Care to explain why other cars can beat a Veyron on a track?

Regarding the 'rocco. I was at Snail when a brand new 'rocco was dynod at 155kW at the wheels. My stock (not even software at that stage) ST made 129kW.

I would buy the 'rocco in a heartbeat knowing that if I had the choice between the GTi6 and the 'rocco.

Ah. I was looking at the straight line speed ... thought you misread ;)

I could believe that. My uncle had the S55 and could blast most things away in a straight line, but it still a big, mushy car :/

Weight plays a huge part and if you have the energy to google the weight of these cars you may be surprised at the weight of that poor Merc.....but then you don't buy the Merc to race from robot to robot, it is ALL about cruizing effortlessly...

BUT

How about that RS6 :) a low 12 second car out of the box, a 4 door to boot AND a luxury cruiser........nuf sed

Me too!! I want a grey one!!!
They all have the same engine(layout and engine code), the Jetta 2.0TFSI, Roc and MK6 GTi. All pushing 155kw, but dont tell the GTi boys hehehehe.

Theres more proof Dolby that the Vdubs claimed power from the manufacturers are at the wheels...

JK8, is your Polo stock?

Ye stock.
Did you see the times CIA got for yours?
8.8 0 - 100 and a 16s 1/4 mile....
Whats your response?

Ye the times are a bit odd. I mean they have a GTi6 faster than the 191kw S3 and the Roc faster than both of them?

But anyone see the RS6 times?:eek: Faster than Adamr!

Simple. As above I also believe that these CIA guys can't drive for ****. I have personally got close to a second faster than that on the 0-100 (quarter mile untested thus far).

Other local car mags have also tested the Corsa OPC and have achieved around the 7.8s mark (http://www.topcar.co.za/comparisons/hot-hatch-shoot-out). Note that this was also done with what they admit was an unhealthy clutch. Next question?

JK8 - everyone testing the Polo GTI gets upwards of 8 seconds - including VW themselves.

What's your response?

He seems to have gone rather quiet all of a sudden

Nah...I saw the stats... they dont make sense somehow.
My PGti has a K03s turbo... 06 models had the K03. it apparently doesn make a HUGE difference, but I think it makes some difference.
