media contacts

For an extensive list of all media (local and Foreign) with a presence in SA, go here http://www.gcis.gov.za/docs/directories/index.html and click on media contacts.

This is a relevant news story since Mbeki has now commented.

Under normal circumstances a simple email is not enough, but since many members are flooding the same addresses I think you'll get noticed. Bear in mind that when it comes to TV some of you will have to open your doors and lives to journalists who want to film worst case scenarios that reflect exactly what a cruel and heartless beast this monopoly is.

They will already be aware that they'll need to film in rural areas and townships where it can be shown that Telkom's monopoly is crippling all of the people not just the elite who are lucky enough to afford Telkom's services.

If you know of an aids orphanage for instance that relies on their internet service for contact with foreign donors but can't pay their bill, a businessman that is trying to introduce internet services in townships but is having problems, anything that is shocking and affects those at grassroots, hand this story to the journo's on a plate and they'll lap it up like little puppies around an empty beer bottle.

Peapod has been busy

Okay Just realised that Peapod has been really busy and already knows about the gcis site.

i'd like to help

hey everyone,

well done on the work you guys have been doing here! it's so cool to see so many people standing up against this obnoxious BS we have to deal with! well done!
not sure if i should be doing this here, but i'd like to jump in and help where i can / where you need?

been wanting to help for a while now, but been helluva busy and time isn't something i have much of at the mo but the activist in me can't resist :D and going off on my own tangent wouldn't help a thing, so i hope i can help here. am a journo and think i may be able to help with a few contacts to mail your letters to. can i post the list here? i'll also mail/contact all of them as you guys have done, but if there's anything else i could be doing, please shout! if there's anyone who's contact details you'd like, shout too - they're usually pretty easy to get hold of :)

ok introductions out the way - will keep it short and to the point from now on :)

HA HA HA HA HA and these people call themselves journalists???? HA HA HA HA HA who or whatever the F 3talk is HA HA HA HA HA HA F HA

i vote for calling nolene on her live show every day whether they're talking about swollen feet during pregnancy, slam poetry, or speed dating. even if only one person phones in every day they'll sit up and take notice. 'live' is a great tool :) can't ignore it forever.

re phoning the Ugly And Untalented Nolene - absolutely - tell the screener that you want to talk about whatever the subject is, then once you get on air, let rip.

(Howard Stern fans make a daily industry out of pranking a wide range of live TV and radio shows, using this method, to pees off people on Stern's behalf.

Tell the call screener whatever - and start off as normal once on air, then slide into the subject you REALLY called about.

The usual route is (for instance) once you get on air - "Hello, I'm a substantial stockholder in Merril Lynch, and I wanted to ask your guest a question.."
"Please go ahead."
"Thank you, I'm curious - according to Howard Stern you're a big fat disgusting pig - what do you think of that?"
"Er um er um, well-"
"Come on you big fat disgusting pig'"
" Er, let's take another call.."

Some days you get a series of three or more calls, each doing a Stern prank - so that the live studio person gets rapidly freaked out - given that they can't trust that the callers are actually going to say what they said they're going to talk about.

And no, provided you don't swear - no crime is being committed :)

Nolene's show lends itself to calls advertising "www.mybroadband.co.za"
- as a challenge, why not find fun ways to do a daily call, and work in an advert for this Forum?

The Fat and Ugly Nolene clearly lurves the camera pointing at her, and its LIVE - therefore its a beautiful daily marketing tool, to tens of thousands of viewers, to let them them know that Telkom sucks, and that this Forum is the place to be.

Well you could also call radio shows like the “rude awakening” on highveld

Maybe try and spread awareness there?

Telkom and Vodacom advertise with most of the major radio stations so we will have no luck with them.

Hey MJ,

It's like LoneG said I think - the fact that it's live means that it doesn't matter whether they like it or not. If you're on air, whoever's listening is *going* to hear whatever you say, and if enough people hear ...

I can just see old Nolene's face:

Nolene: "We have Anonymous from Cape Town on the line ... Hello Anonymous."
Caller: "Hi Nolene. Thank you for taking my call and thanks for a wonderful show. I watch every day and I think you're just like Oprah."
N: "Ah thank you Anonymous." <Nolene blushes> (and trust me, she will - i seen it with my own eyes.)
N: "What can our experts do for you today?"

And the floor is yours.

I think it could be pretty powerful - even if just one call a day - sooner or later they'll do a show just to get everyone to stop calling :)

radios are a good idea too - 5fm does drivetime call ins too - where you can just call in and talk about whatever. sure they'll cut you off. but tomorrow they'll have to cut the next guy off, and then the one after that. I reckon more people will sit up and take notice. i reckon with one call a day, they'll have to cancel all live call-ins if they don't do something about it.

revolution :)

sigh. i know it's not that easy, but one can hope huh ...

yeah you are right this needs to be coordinated together with a bunch of ppl.

Join the channel im in..(look at my sig)
and discuss with me about it
we need to rally as many ppl to the cause

5 sec delay

Just remember that live b/casts radio and TV generally have a five second delay to stop expletives or other unwanted content, what they'll do is put in the long beep sound you hear when a call is dropped, and then say oh sorry we seem to have lost such and such

Given that its a kind of 'audio Project Mayhem' - forget about synchronising watches, just make a note to try call Noelene on a daily basis. Set 5 minutes aside each day, to dial/redial. Whoever gets through first, will act as inspiration to the others. Put a blank tape in the VCR, turn the sound off, so that you have the audio recorded, if you get through. No swearing - marshall your thoughts, and 10 points for every clear mention of 'mybroadband.co.za' you manage to get in.
As a secondary thought, to anyone who has a free net->sms gateway - one way of getting onto that scrolling text, try using
"Online Fans of Noelene at www.mybroadband.co.za "

Given some poor slob's job of endlessly weeding out the rude sms's - that might well get in and on the TV text scrolling. But only try it if you have a free net->sms gateway, otherwise its costing money..
