Following on my complaints about Cartrack:

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=151173&highlight=cartrack

I after all this, called Cartrack to cancel my contract. I was told to fax through my cancellation request, which I did. I was then told my fax was not received, so I faxed again. I later in the month received notice that my debit order had bounced, I called them up and faxed them a third time.

I have now, 3 months later just had a shouting match with the woman in the accounts department telling me they have received nothing! I have copies of all the fax transmissions as being acknowledged on their side. They've asked me to fax again.

I don't know how these people do business, I sure they are incapable of tying their own shoelaces in the morning. Add to that I couldn't get a hold of this woman (who I was told by Cartrack to contact) a month ago when I was once again informed about my debit order bouncing.

How do I tell these people to cancel my contract short of driving over there, walking into the MDs office and telling him to f**k off? They refuse to cancel my contract despite 2 phone calls and 3 faxes. Who do I need to contact to get rid of these people?

Just a warning peeps: never ever use Cartrack, I have never received such incompetent service and rude staff in my life before! There are much better alternatives.

Cartrack now informs me if I don't prove that I sent that fax (even though the have record of me calling the day before I sent it) I'm liable for my account since then! For a company that's quite happy to sign you up over the phone (they bungled it up so badly its no even my name on the contract) they won't cancel over the phone and make your life as difficult as possible!

Honestly, how do they run a business like this?

I have a sneaking suspicion that this is what it's going to take...

Here we are four months later and yet another SMS.

Seriously, keep far far away, you don't need this extra stress in your life.

timgaul, Its a bit of a pain in the ass possibly, but I would go and dispute the deductions on your bankaccount with the bank themselves... You should be able to at least get the last one reversed straight away and Cartrack will have no recourse because there is no contract between you and them.

I have cancelled the debit orders for the last three months, but these buggers refuse to cancel the contract!

After much fighting I finally send a fax indicating my request to cancel my contract. THREE MONTHS later I receive as response that it wasn't a signed fax and as such they can't cancel the contract! These f**kers just want your money and don't give a damn about the customer.

The first line of my fax states "Please cancel my service with Cartrack with immediate effect". I have now been told that I need to "also state in the letter you want to cancel the contract with Cartrack."

What the hell kind of game are these people playing? They don't give a damn about their customers, they just want their money!

Please people, us a reputable car tracking company like Netstar or Matrix. These smaller operations are incapable of running a decent operation, you just need to look at the number of complaints on hellopeter.com to understand why.

DO NOT USE CARTRACK!

Then lodge a complaint of fraud against them with the bank at the very least, and also with the police... that should make the company pull finger and do something.

I think it is beginning to get to that point. I would also like to hear a recording of the contract as I do not believe I agreed to any 3 month notice period - especially considering I bought the device outright.

In fact the name on my certificate, which serves as proof of contract is "Timphoi Gel" - which is a far stretch from my actual name.

After two months of being with Cartrack and requesting they charge the R700 for the deivce as a debit order, I received a final notice letter from them stating I hadn't paid for the device (addressed to Mr Timphoi Gel). I guess I should've known at that point I was in for a bumpy ride. Oh and that letter went to my residential address and not my post box.

Incompetence does seem to be rife in this company. I am frustrated to the point that I will give them the money they believe is outstanding to ensure I never have to hear from them again.

Just a question: how can you treat your customers in this way if you expect any return business? Now I have 500 views on my threads and people will think twice before using this company, they're just shooting themselves in the foot.

Their are such good companies out there that we should be supporting, and I really think we need a good database of who and who not to use.

I use Matrix. They have recovered my car before (RAV 4). I was in a total state of panic.

I phoned then to tell them that the car had been stolen (they couldn't know because the thief broke into my house and stole the key... so no alarms). The lady who answered the phone said "Sorry to hear Mr. Steyn! Let me put you right through to the recovery department. Don't worry sir, we will get your car back."

Phone rang twice... I am panicing. All of a sudden someone answers: "Mr. Steyn I understand your car has been stolen." Frightened by his deep Vind Diesel voice, I answered "yes" like a little boy who knew he was in trouble.

He replied: "What is your pass word?"

I say: "*****"

He says: "You drive a Tazz, correct?"

I say: "NO!!! It's a RAV!!!"

He says: "I see, the RAV has a tow bar?"

I say: "No! Why all the questions?" My car ha been stolen man!!"

He says: "Thanks Mr. Steyn, you have been confirmed as the true owner the stolen RAV 4. I have you number on screen, no need to call back. I have sent out a recovery unit already. I will let you know the progress in 15 minute intervals."

I say: "Wha...?"

Phone goes dead... he threw the phone down in my ear... that motherf....

*15 minutes later*

Phone is ringing...

Aswer... "Hi?"

"Mr. Steyn we have confirmed your car's location. It is 5 km out of rustenburg in a township. The ETA of the unit is 34 minutes. The car is stationary, so we might be able to locate the thief as well. Don't worry Mr. Steyn, we want to get your car back."

I don't want to answer because I anticipate that he is going to slam the phone in my ears again..

*silence*

"Mr steyn?"

"Yes?" I answered.

"Are you OK?"

"No, I am very mad at what is happening man... They broke into my house. They stole my keys... I am pissed off!"

"Sir, I understand. This is our job, we retrieve cars. I will call you when I receive news from my unit."

"Well I..."

*Phone goes dead...*

-some time passes-

Phone rings...

"Hello?"

"Mr Steyn.. we have your car and what looks like 2 suspects. Your car was parked infront of a garage. Our guys think it was about to be disassembled. We were, however, in time. Your car has no visible damage on it. We are going to let the Rustenburg Police department store your car . You can relax now sir, your car is safe. I see you have a 120 km drive to Rustenburg, do you have a means of transportation."

"Yes thanks I can manage. Thanks alot for my car."

"Its our job, sir. Happy new year."

"Same to you... bye."

"Bye Mr Steyn"

Total time: about 45 minutes.

Matrix will awlays get my money at the end of the month. That was just great work by them. I might have forgotten one or two things, but that is more or less what happened. It was quite recent. And then ofcourse it took me 4 1/2 hours to get the car from the Police station. Irony...

Yeah, same deal...
Matrix recovered the vehicle in perfect condition.. got stored at the cop station for 4 days (I was out of town).. and I get back a car that has been stripped...

Or should I say the police tried to fob that one off on me.... didn't fly, insurance paid out, no questions asked, which indicates to me that the police yards have a bad reputation has being "chop shops"

If the contract is not in your name with correct spelling surely it is not binding as there are incorrect details?

Thats what I'm assuming. It was all done on the phone, so no signature either, but the details are horribly inaccurate.

As I mentioned rather use one of the well established and long running companies that have a decent history. I would say Tracker, Matrix and Netstar; and most definitely not Cartrack who have difficulty tracking interoffice faxes. Thanks for clarifying my recommendations - though I have to wonder why my broker directed me to CarTrack in the first place, some sort of kick back I imagine :/

I would definitely seek a legal opinion on that just to be sure, but it is where my line of thinking takes me.
;)

Got them to cancel the contract with three months outstanding. Depending on my frame of mind and energy I may go over there to hear the contract recording. How can they expect three months notice for a month-to-month contract?
