My car badly needs to be washed. But I never get around to taking it to a hand wash place.

I was thinking of just going to one of those drive through car wash machine thingies, but apparently you're not supposed to do that if you have a beesting aerial? Surely that would eliminate a lot of cars?

If you're going through one with the spinning washers and dryers and polishers, then there is a danger yes. Beesting aerials often get ripped off, so many car wash places won't allow them through. If you drive a hatch then be careful that it doesn't rip your rear wiper off and damage your car...

Remember: you drive the car through a car wash at your own risk...

Why not take it to one of the car washes where they jetwash the car and hand polish it and vacuum it while you wait? No risk of things being torn off by the machine....

I just unscrew mine.

Next time you go shopping check if there are people offering a car wash service while you're doing your shopping... usually @ a mall. Just negotiate the price with them before going into the shops....

I would never leave my car unlocked to people I don't know, while doing shopping

crazy stuff....

neither do I, they just wash/polish the outside. I keep the interior of my cars spotless.

Yeah just take the beesting off and if you've got a read window wiper, they usually tape it to the window.

My sister takes her polo to the Caltex car wash near by canal walk, they always taker her aerial off and give it to her and when the car is all sparkly clean again they screw it back in...had no issues with the rear wiper as far as I know.

According to her the prices are quite reasonable as well.

Damn, I'd rather have my car dirty than use on of those drive-thru washes! They are seriously hard on a cars paintwork.

if u got no time, use the machine wash, just unscrew the aerial and turn in the side mirrors.

People go there with luxury vehicles cos they just dont have the time for other places and to wash it themselves.

as for the malls, many of them use a spray bottle of water and not a bucket or hose. I seen these guys at Menlyn and Centurion Malls. that'll really scratch the paint!
