Hi All, does anyone have any experience with the Casals power tools . I am unable to find any reviews online for them but they have really good prices compared to the likes of Bosch and Ryobi.
Any idea if they would be a decent purchase or I should rather pay the extra and get more well known brands?

Well, like me, I will buy any drill or grinder that fits my need, if it brakes after 5 years, I replace it with a brand new one. I am currently using a skill grinder and it works well, about 4 years old now.

Workshop managers say if they use cheap stuff, if it gets lost it is cheap to replace, it a expensive thing brakes and cannot cheaply be fix, it is a pain.
In the old days one bought a name, now one use something that fits your need and replace it rather than fix it.

I reckon if they're for your personal use, I would buy quality and spend the extra money.

I used my dad's Metabo drill yesterday (it must be at least 20 years old) and it's still solid!

I wouldn't buy any tools other than top brands because these are just like that Skill cr@p that you use once and throw it away.

Very much disagree with this.

When it comes to home power tools, buy the best you can afford... The big name brands like Makita and Dewalt are easily serviceable and you can get the parts very easily. I have a Makita rotary hammer, and after a whole shyteload of abuse, the brushes finally gave up the ghost. Its going to cost me all of R250 to get the replacement part and the unit should see another 5 years of service, and longer because most of the abuse it was bought for is now finished.

I think this mostly comes down to how often you are going to use it and how abusive you are going to be with the power tools.. you spend 500rand on a cheap brand and 2 months later it breaks because you use it a lot and you use it hard, now you have to spend another 500rand to replace it.. for that 1000rand you have now spent, you could have gotten something in the green bosch range for example which would have very likely lasted much longer..

If its not used often and you are not going to be very abusive with it, then a cheap brand should be just fine..

I buy green bosch.. excellent value for money versus the quality and longevity plus it's what I can afford..

Interesting thing about the casals power tools, is the range we get here is not the same colour as in the mother country for the brand and we also dont seem to get the d.i.y vs pro ranges available there..

Bad experience with Skill? I have a Skill drill that I have owned for over 12 years. Still going strong. No issues.

I have found that the Stramm brand is a load of cr@p.

Yip was given various tools as a gift and the equipment failed very quickly.

Totally agree with your sentiments. It all depends on how often you are going to use the tool. I have tools I bought and only used once in 3 years. I have an office job and don't often have time to get stuck into fixing things.

Casals is interesting in that it is a European brand. From what I gather it is Spanish which would explain why we don't know much about it. I definitely would buy for my once in 3 year use. If I find myself using the tools every week then so be it. I will upgrade if tool breaks. I am always intrigued how people will pay thousands for dinner, spend a couple hundred at the movies (if you include popcorn) but object to spending 500 on a tool and call it a waste.

I have a casals electric grass trimmer, have it for over a year now and it works fine. Power tools shold be okay. If its for occasional home use I say go for it. They also look pretty nice. My grass trimmer looks identical to a ryobi one, so maybe some shared parts there if not all.

All in all they have been great. No complaints from me. I am not using them daily, but fairly regularly. The drill powers my grain mill for instance.
