I'm building a new machine to replace my parents home PC.

Specs:
z77 Asrock mobo(ATX)
i5 3450
8gb ddr3
2TB
SSD

Not for gaming so there will be no gfx card.

I need a case that is plain and silent and not to big as there is no gfx card, just the 2 hard drives and 1 optical drive. No side windows, lights and other crap. The case will never be opened again after building, so nothing fancy.

The only thing I need on the case is front USB3. Rear is of no use, as they are not going to crawl under the desk to plug it in portable devices. The lower the price the better.

Secondly, the machine needs a PSU,

No GFX card, 3rd gen i5, no over clocking.

So I was thinking of the THERMALTAKE LITEPOWER, 450W for R294

What's your suggestion?

Dan

Antec One chassis @ R572
Cooler Master GX400 @ R500

The Antec One is surprisingly quiet for a mid-tower and has plenty of room for future upgrades. I also recommend the GX-series because its 80 Plus Bronze-certified, which means less electricity wastage and the fan spins down almost completely at 35% capacity. The five-year warranty is also a bargain.

Alternatively, if you figure they might need more graphical performance down the line, maybe for light browser games or for watching movies, you could also go the APU route:

AMD A6-3670K @ R1197
GIGABYTE A75M-D2H @ R1035

Poor PSU, only 3 SATA connectors and the cable can't reach the HDD rack and top optical drive bay in ATX size cases.

The Corsair VS450 or CX430 are better options - http://www.corsair.com/builder-series-vs450-450-watt-high-performance-power-supply.html, http://www.corsair.com/power-supplies/non-modular-psus/builder-series/builder-series-cx430.html.

I quite like Cooler Master Elite entry cases, these are ATX size, have USB3 and are south of R400:

Next up is the Silencio 450 at around R650, has a front SD card reader too and is silent - http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6746.

+1 to the silencio range. But a little pricey when he could get away with the elite series. Some nice looking cases for the price.

Corsair is my brand of psu. Love them. So will once again agree with postmanpot.

Other than that the cpu and mobo you have listed are on the mark. Nothing worse than the parentals complaining about a slow pc. Still get calls from my almost 70yr old father. Lol.
