Cash saved Van der Vyfer

IMO, the Judge, cops & people responsible for the mess up should server the same amount of time in prison & pay from their pockets!

Because so much effort was directed towards Van der Vyfer, other evidence that may have lead to the real killers is now lost in time.

Varying degrees of faulty prosecution are a problem all over. From simple errors like police and prosecutors ignoring contradictory evidence once they believe they have figured out the guilty party to deliberately suppressing contradictory evidence to fabricating evidence. That last one is fairly unusual. Then there's misrepresenting the reliability of evidence. Even when the police have been scrupulous your chance of getting a fair trial rests on how much you can afford to spend on legal representation and experts. It goes even further in that having money increases your chances of getting away despite being guilty.

Very good summary of the situation. Police often go for the obvious suspect and almost force the evidence to fit that suspect. Too lazy to do a proper investigation.

Anthony Altbeker wrote a brilliant book about the criminal case of State versus Van Der Vyver, analysing it in depth. Excellent read.

I suspect the same thing happened in the Madeleine Mcann case.
