Any ideas where I can get those 3 legged cast iron pots used to cook on open fires with?
I want the old fashioned heavy ones.
The ones I see are aluminium light weight & I dont like them.

is what you call a "Three-Legged-Old-Fashioned-Heavy-Cast-Iron-Pot" a Potjie????

Shoprite has the Bush Baby brand which is quite heavy.

Outdoor warehouse got size 3 potjies for R500. Good quality, don't buy the ones at Game, i did and had to return it after it developed a leak near the one leg during the prep period.

you need to prep the potjie properly before using it the first time else your meat will turn out black...

When buying look for Falkirk or Best Duty brands.

Best Duty and Falkirk have websites (Falkirk is current down), you could always call them and ask where to buy from or who they supplied close to you. Think the factory is somewhere in your neck of the woods, one of them I know you can definitely buy directly from them.

The foundry is/was in Newcastle. None of the numbers listed for them seem to work, maybe they went out of business.

You can also try these guys http://castironpots.co.za/ as they seem to sell several brands,

I was in Farm City (@Plantland Lynwood) over the weekend & they have a good selection of sturdy 3-legged potjies.

Also a wide selection of flat bottomed cast iron pots, as well as those square cast iron bread pots for baking a loaf in/on the coals. Man, I wanna go camping.

Oh yeah .. and proper Jaffel pans, those are scarce.

Farm City

A tip about those pots...when someone accidently drops the pot lid :o and it breaks into two pieces, it can be welded together.

You would have to drop it on a hard surface for it to break.

Falkirk! oh yes!
thats the name I was looking for! Thanx guys, I will check the stores you recommended & hopefully get something I like.

Cast iron pot welding

Exactly what happened to my wife while using her grandmother's pot.

Any tip where in Pretoria I can have the 2 pieces of the original lid welded together?

I know it is a special process involving pre-heating and slow cooling, but it can be done by skilled people.
