I have meters and meters of secondhand CAT5e Cable that a friend gave me to sell but they don't have the RJ45 Connectors on them. How much do the connectors cost or can I sell them without the connectors and who would buy them?

cool thanks my friend and will a computer shop put them on if you asked them?

When I was still in Durbz there was a place where they would charge R10 to put it on if you bring your own and R25 if they had to supply connectors and jackets.

Connectors (including boot) - R2.00 - R2.50
Cable New - R3.00 - R4.00/meter.

eg. cost on 1M cable including connectors = R5.70

usually we just dump old cables

If you have plentiful meters how about getting trunking and connect distant parts of ur home? Apart from pc use u could even install a phone line to ur kitchen for eg. Plenty of uses if u just think about it.

This reminds me of the time i had a 50m x-over cable i had lying around just in case. Came home one day from uni and found my mom used it as a washing line. Goes without saying i was royally pissed at that!

you can buy a thousand feet of new cable for abour R399... so ja... you can work out a price for second hand.

The problem with second hand is that no self-respecting network junkie will touch it... the chances of it having a fault are fairly high... and the testing equipment is horrendously expensive and really not worth the time to fit connectors and test each piece of cable.

ha ha ha i don't wanna be rich i just wanna pay the bills.

Well let me put it this way .... we make up cables for clients @ R4/meter including the connectors .... so if you sell at about half that price for 2nd hand, it should be fair :erm:

problem is, to get someone to fit those connector at next to nothing .... that is the *****ty part .... after doing about 10, your fingers & eyes really hurt :D

You should be able to sell it without the RJ-45 connectors, because the person would otherwise still require a crimping tool if you give him the cable + RJ-45 separately. You can also get the crimping tool for less than R200, and a cable tester for less than R100.

i was looking now at the crimping tool and you guys just gave the price for the connectors but it's not worth it as the cables are second hand.

If it was me... I would put it in my garage next to my crimping tool and connectors that I keep there for when somebody asks me for cabling.
But I wouldn't bother trying to sell it. :( Sorry man.

cool buddy.

Still have my crimpers and test equipment (Fluke make, unsure of the model... as it is in storage!) but really CAT5 and CAT5e (read as rip-off) are no brainers! Even sparkies are running it these days!
