Can anyone suggest a decent jacket stripping tool that does not cut into the wires.

I have tried 3 different crimping tools and their stripping tools all cut into the twisted pairs.

U need to be gentle with it. So don't squeeze all the way, but just pierce the skin horizontally, then do the same vertically, and the sleeve will just pull off

Have seen some really bad jobs where they have pulled backed the foreskin and just stuck the thing in :D

I've got one of these:

Bought it from Communica, it works like a charm because you can adjust the blade.

+1

It also doesn't help that the quality of Cat5e cable has gone down the tubes. I guess it's not surprising since it costs next to nothing.

Perhaps I have a cheap crimping tool, but tried 2 (both ratchet type) and it forces you to go all the way and damages the cables. Even tried flattening the cables.

Probably you or your tool. I've used quality crimpers with integrated strippers before and never cut into the pairs, saw cabling guys do 100's the same without issue. Secondly it's not a full squeeze either.

As for the quality of cable mentioned, you get cable and then you get cable. Stick to the reputable brands like krone, 3m etc

Thanks. The only crimpers I can get locally in East London are the ratchet type which force you to press until it releases. Any suggestions to a good quality pair I can buy online...

A stanley knife & steady hand. tend to always loose the wire stripper, its harder to misplace a knife ;)
