What are your guys thoughts on cat5e vs cat6? Considering the house is being built from scratch and this will be done once. Don't have any crazy needs, just 20mbps fibre, a few roku's streaming from an HTPC, couple of other devices.
Cat5e is rated for gigabit, so no need for cat6, and cat5e is more flexible than cat6.
If you installing in house trunking or roof you may aswell do CAT6 as it will just have a longer life span than CAT5.

Longer lifespan if its bending all the time yes, but not if its just going to be chilling an a trunk all the time.
But if op wants to spend a few bucks per meter then can get cat6.
Do you want to buy the new TV or last gen which does the same.
It's only 100m, get CAT7![]()
Actually need about 500mI said a couple 100m's haha
Electrician has provided piping to all the rooms and wallplates, just need to decide on the cabling and switch
Then he may as well get CAT 8.2
I would actually get CAT5e pure copper, its R690 for 305M from DBG.co.za and you will get a myBB discount.
Do you want this switch to be gigabit or is 100meg fine?
@OP, go Gigabit. You most likely won't ever swap it out.
And the reason to go Cat6:
If 50m or under = 10Gbps possible
two way communication (less latency)
If you want to future proof, get the Cat6, if you want to save money or are always running the cable >50m, get Cat5e.
