Catching a speeding bullet with Canon 7D

Freezing the bullet slug would not be possible, imo. Not with 1/8000 and probably not with a strobe either (do Canon make one that will sync at that speed?).

The strobe that I'm referring to is not a camera flash (which is often referred to as a strobe). The kind of strobe you'd need is a high frequency flashing light (something like that used to set a car's timing or used in discos in the olden times). By adjusting the sync time of the start of the event with the triggering of the with the sync of the strobe and the opening of the shutter, you can get the bullet in the right position in the frame. This will all have to be done electronically - there's no ways on earth that you're going to be able to do this with someone pulling the trigger and someone else pressing the shutter on the camera (even if the someones are the same person).

I know a guy who invented a device that fires a shutter on sound. He did some stuff on the Nikongear.com site shooting water filled balloons with a pellet gun. Search there for Desmond's posts (he's an ex-Saffer living in New Zealand now).
