Has anyone had success moving away from the old cciss drivers for raid controllers to the newer hpsa kernel drivers?

Theres a couple projects out there that dont support HPs older retarded block device naming conventions (eg. crowbar)
and i would like to run this on older HP hardware.

aliasing devices could work also

We did (My colleague did ;)) We upgraded the kernel from a 2.6.33.4 to a 3.6.2 (customized).
And we kept the base OS, so no re-install was needed, basically just a kernel upgrade. Our motivation was not the cciss, but a issue we had with a NIC driver.
If it works out of the box with a newish version distro, I cant say for certain, because we customized the kernel. It might.
If you need more details (or pointers), I have a door to knock on.

yeah i upgraded to 3.9.4 with hpsa and no cciss. caused some fun so i guess the raid controllers are just too old(talking gen4/5).
Passed cciss.cciss_allow_any=1 as well which according to HP will allow un-supported devices to work.

Got around it with some softlinks and editing the /usr/sbin/ceph-disk script(www.ceph.com), not elegant, but whatever.

also, bnx2 drivers are the greatest. <3 HP.
