CCTV Camera - Upgrades

Hi,

At our complex, we have 3x street facing cameras.

These are normal bullet cameras at 2 megapixels.

We want to upgrade these so we can get better detail, to improve the ability to identify those loitering on the pavement on our Street frontage. Whether it be persons or parked vechiles.

Will upgrading these to say 8 mega pixel cameras be enough or are there other things to take into consideration.

These cameras are 6 meters from the perimeter fence.

Might be a better option, to put cameras on perimeter fence except for the trees on pavement , which will block most of the area we would like to monitor.

If can, check the focus of the cameras. Assuming they are analogs (co-ax or single pair on UTP with baluns), upgrading past 1080 may be a challenge for the DVR.

If they are digital, also maybe look at something that can run Thingino/OpenIPC, which are generally cheap and cheerful cameras.

First bet though is checking the focus. I saw it on the expensive Mobotix cameras we had at work: great, but useless if not properly focused for the area intended. The stock focus can be quite a bit off.

My cheap dahua cameras is set on HD, and video is good.

Not sure what system you using but perhaps the equivalent of these for the optical zoom and quality
