Ok so as the title reads, I am looking for software (preferably free) that would all me to delete or add a single file to a rewritable cd.

I know its possible for the hardware to do this as it can be done from Windows 7 upwards using a live file system. Problem is, I need a Windows XP version.

Currently that would involve copying the cd to the hard drive then adding the file you want then erase the disk then rewrite the cd. This is a long process as most rw run at like 8x as opposed to normal 52x.

Deleting the file is a good feature to have but i wouldnt mind if the software could just add a file as i could erase and rewrite the disk every few months or when the disk is full to remove old file. The files on average will be 1mb.

Yes i do know that cd rw are a dying medium and win xp is also dying but those variables cant be changed cheaply.

Thanks

Don't use RW, just use DVD-R... they are cheaper, and will burn your "new file" to DVD faster than RW.

then, kind of "append" your new files - don't erase the disk every time.
(make sure "Finalize disk" is unticked in your burn Software)

I think this is what you want to do.... i'm not certain why you need to keep burning a small 1mb file over and over, but if you did, I think my advice should work.

So basically what you asking for is a free CD/DVD burning software?

I highly recommend AstroBurn

Sounds like you're looking for packet-writing software. Possible options:
Drive Letter Access
InCD

Although I would not recommend it... back in the day this messed up a few CD-RW :(
