Cell C 21mbs a huge white lie...

Ok. So i got the 21mbs data deal ...

I have been using this since December when I got it, I tend to travel allot , JHB,DBN,CT , and every time I use it i do a data speed test ...

Not once I have i ever gone over 4mbs , so I would love to know how they can advertise 21mbs.

I just like that fact that I have 5gig a month data that I can gobble up. ...but the speeds are kinda unrealistic.

Anyone else find this?

How can they advertise 21mbps? The same way every other communication technology is advertised, based on the max theoretical speed.

Probably for the same reason that a BMW M3 can be advertised to do a top speed of 270km/h. Theoretically it can do that speed on the open road, but when the roads are full of traffic, like the N1 at 4.00 - 6.00pm, then that M3 will crawl along.
It allso depends on the condition of the roads, potholes etc.

Similarly, data speed depends on how much traffic is on the network, how strong the signal is to your modem, among other factors

I have the 7.2 Mbps speedstick and the maximum I've seen was just over 5mbps, which I'm very happy with. It sounds to me like many guys with 21 Mbps speedsticks get speeds of about 9mbps-11mbps. It really just depends on your location and coverage.

What he said - it all depends on location and coverage.

You said 4mbps? That's good - you won't get the same speeds with telkom for the same amount of money...

When I got the thingy I never expected it to get even close to 21mbs, but I was expecting 1mb which I didn't get in my area. Disconnections and poor speeds were the problem which are "start-up" problems so I'll be looking at getting it after a couple of months when things are more settled.
