HI

Can someone please help me ? I got a Cell c dongle and now I am having problems with starcraft 2. It worked fine on my vodacom connection

It is an weird experience where the game will run for about 10 minutes and then it would just lag (and sometimes DC) then it will work fine again for a few minutes and then the same would happen.

Any Ideas ? Someone out there using Cell c and not having problems ?

I am on the cell C dongle as well and this happened to me not too long ago....

I sent an email to [email protected] and thereafter they asked for my sim number and I don't know if it just happened to work or they fixed it but it worked perfect after that.
They seem to be very good with that sort of thing.

I tried it on both the white and the black modem and both caused this problem.

Thank for info , I am going to contact the cell c helpdesk and hope they will be able to help me.

Will post here if it gets resolved.

Noticed exactly the same thing.
The modem would reboot (light goes off, then reconnects) but only when playing SC2, not when doing heavy downloading or anything.
This was happening like every 3 to 5 minutes... very annoying.

After reading some of the comments here pointing to the fact that it may be power related, I got a powered USB hub. I only had a chance to play one game last night, but it did not disconnect!

I'll play a few more games tonight to test, but lets hope the fix is this simple.

It's a bit annoying as I've got the 3G wireless router from Cell C (D105) and experience the same disconnects, although less frequent (~ every 10 mins).

Yea, it seems like this is only happening when playing SC2. I play WOW awell and have no problems with that.

Strange i been jamming starcraft 2 fine with it....although today i have had some issues with the dongle its been dropping every now and then even while browsing.

Ok, so the USB hub appears to help the situation, but I still see the modem resetting after a few games.
It may be the thermal protection kicking in as it's a bit toasty.

Back to the exciting game of "guess the problem!" I, well, guess...

i checked my sc2 last night. Didn't have any issues. I'm running 64bit Win 7 ulti. Is it happening during campaign or multiplayer or both?

I installed the latest firmware that I found here on the site from a cell c rep and it still drops.

Also using windows 7 64 bit, it seems like something is kicking in and stopping the connection otherwise I would have had lag while playing.

It only happens during multiplayer games. It does not even lag one bit everything runs smoothly and then suddenly (after about 10-20 mintutes) it will give a popup that states "waiting for server" and then goes on after about half a minute or drops.

I am a big fan of what Cell C is doing for the internet community of SA and have about 5 other people waiting for me to test this and advice them if they should get Cell C or not... and it looks like I will have to advice against getting Cell C

Also running Win7 64bit.

Thing is, I used to play for quite a while when I first got the modem with no issues. I also play Quake Live which arguably requires more traffic, but no issues at all.
Maybe more people are on the same cell > decreased cell footprint > increased modem power to get signal > heat > thermal protection > reset?

I've also convinced 3 other people to go for Cell C, but now may have to eat my words...

Yep, lsst night I was playing SC2 online for the first time too and my E1820 dropped to Edge then disconnected twice in the space of 45 minutes. Oddly enough my connection os typically rock solid.

I guess CellC is great for everything but gaming.

I jammed 3 hours of SC2 last night and no issues at all, playing with my buddy from the UK.

Seems the problem that i was having (posted above) has been sorted.

I have not heard anything back from online support. Send a mail to tell trevor so maybe "he" will speed things up :p

Still having problems

So after many weird and wonderful attempts to get the modem to not disconnect, my latest uber-high tech solution seems to work the best -
place the modem near a window.

I think that with more people getting on the network, the cell footprint is getting smaller so the modem has to work harder to get a stable signal. Placing the modem near a window allows it to get a better signal despite what the Cell C dashboard says. Played for a few hours last night with some lag spikes, but no disconnects.

Hmmmm, well i posted my problem to the onlinesupport email on saturday and they phoned me yesterday so that was like 4 days it took for them to get back to me this time but he did say that it was a tower issue...pitty you still having problems, hope you get it sorted.

O also i placed my Tower on top of my pc desk so my tower is above my head when im jamming SC2 and it seemed to work better then when it was on the floor. Maybe its just me though.
