Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and I'm hoping someone might be able to help me.

I've got an iphone 3G and I've got an MTN Sim card in it. I sometimes use it for tethering and it works fine.

I recently bought a 60Gig cell C dongle and have just sent the it in to be repaired. I've tried putting the cell C sim in my iphone and tethering it but the tethering option doesn't show??

I can use the internet on the phone and it sits on EDGE but for some unknown reason it just wont let me tether it??

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

I am not sure about the tethering but as for internet is concerend Iphone 3g does not support UMTS 900. That means you will only get EDGE with the cell c sim unless you are living in the area where cell c is using 2100Mhz(very rare).

Not sure about the tethering, but can explain the reason that it sits on EDGE and not 3G.

The Cell C 3G network runs on HSDPA 900, which is not supported by the iPhone 3g. The iPhone 3g only works on HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 (ie Vodacom/MTN).

Given this, I doubt you'll be that interested in tethering as EDGE browsing isn't much fun...

EDIT: Beaten to it.
