Cell C connects ANC
By Staff writer, ITWeb
Johannesburg, 6 Jan 2012

SA's third cellphone operator, Cell C, has increased its network coverage and deployed advanced technology in Mangaung, Free State, ahead of the ANC's centennial milestone celebrations this weekend.

Cell C says it will provide high-speed Internet access to guests and journalists attending the weekend's festivities, several thousand of which are expected in total.

“This will form a part of Cell C's legacy project in Mangaung, especially in support of entrepreneurs who are operating both formal and informal business, making mobile services available to all at affordable rates. It will also support the national broadband strategy and government's plan to bring broadband to all by 2020,” says Cell C's government and stakeholder relations head Joshua Moela.

“Over 800 invited and accredited local and international journalists will have access to a high-speed WiFi service installed by Cell C at the media centre, allowing them the capacity and speed they will need to broadcast the event,” says the company.

Cell C adds it has installed WiFi access in the Bloemfontein Rugby Stadium, where the main celebrations will take place on Sunday. President Jacob Zuma will also deliver his statement at this venue.

The ANC centenary logistics team is already making use of this WiFi access at both its provincial offices and the operations centre at the rugby stadium.

Moela says this initiative also forms part of Cell C's rollout plan in support of customer retention and growth. “[This includes] partnerships with all stakeholders in support of important events like this in the country.”

Heads of state from across the African Union and the world have been invited to attend the governing party's commemoration, along with 6 000 other VIP guests. They will be joined by an expected 100 000 ANC members from around the country.

What are your opinions on this?

Money better spent than to exec bonuses.

Then again I'm not a big supporter of any of SA's politicians.

“This will form a part of Cell C's legacy project in Mangaung, especially in support of tentrepreneurs who are operating both formal and informal business, making mobile services available to all at affordable rates." FTFY.

I am not a ANC member and despise their culture and ethics and almost all their members but:

I suppose at the "meet" there are members also not interested in the k@k being spoken and hence this gives them the oppertunity to surf the net instead of sleeping during speeches?

Currying favour with the ruling party? I Wonder what Cell C are expecting in return? ..... hmmmmmm spectrum allocation on the horizon.
