Hello,

I'm thinking of selling my W995 SE to join the CellC Bandwagon. I can't allow myself to give any more business to the Vodacon thieves.

The reason I have to sell is because the Thieving bastards will void my guarantee if I put another provider's simcard into my phone.. Thats so wrong in so many ways..

Anyway I was hoping there are people here who might be willing to help me shop for a nice contract at CellC that wouldn't be too expensive per month since I hardly ever call anyone. My cellphone is just a status symbol and I sometimes Mxit etc ^^

Cheers!
P.S. I am most fond of Sony Erricson phones and battery life + GPS is quite important to me

Do yourself a favour, buy a phone for cash, forget about contracts, and get a prepaid sim card.

Are you sure about this? I've never heard this before.

Seriously? How do they check? You can just perform a simple sim swap, right? Or will they look on their records and say, hey your phone was on Cell C, therefore your warranty is invalid?

they log imei numbers across networks

whenever your phone calls a vodacom network it will list your cellphone imei + carrier name (CellC) on the Vodacon network.. so u screwed.

Either this or these companies all share this information >.>

I wouldn't sell my phone and get a new one just for the sake of the warranty.

Surely the manufacturer of the phone is liable for the phone, not the network provider? What about people who buy simless phones? Those phones aren't linked to any network.

The first year warrantee is provided by the manufacturer, the second year by the networks for contracts. They usually don't check though so it won't make a difference.

Yeah but im cunfuzzled about the 24month vodacon guarantee they provide.. Don't make sence

Exactly what doesn't makes sense, you have a right to the first year warranty, Vodacom can't take that away. All networks provide the second year warranty to encourage contract customers, it's their choice to offer it to you or not. That said Vodacom usually weasels out of the 2nd year warranty with the old water damage excuse anyway...
+100

And as mentioned above - go prepaid - don't be tied down by 24 month contracts.
It's insane IMO!

It generally doesn't make sense to most of us. Over the period of 24 months you usually pay the same as you would for the phone cash and you get airtime/minutes (effectively free) and most networks do offer the second year warranty for contracts. Furthermore if you chose contract over prepaid you can save the money you were going to pay all at once, earn interest on that over a year or so and still come out better than if you had paid the money all at once. So unless the phone is much cheaper prepaid and you don't use much airtime/minutes, a contract is generally the better option. If you have billing concerns then all the networks offer top-up contracts and you still pay far less for those than you would prepaid+air time.
