Cell C is winding down its RAN

Cell C is winding down its radio access network as its expanded roaming agreement with MTN allows it to leverage the bigger operator's infrastructure.

This is according to CEO Douglas Craigie Stevenson, who said that the move was necessary to improve the operator's efficiency.

Is CellC profitable in any way?
I haven't seen much news of their financial woes this year.
Edit: just saw the billions lost thread.

So a super MVNO
Craigie Stevenson stressed that the company would not become a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) – it would simply not own its own radio access network.

“We are not becoming an MVNO, I must be clear about this. We have got our own spectrum, licence, number range, brand, customers, and core billing,” he said. “It is really only the radio access network.”

“We are not an MVNO or a ‘Super MVNO’ – we are just expanding our roaming agreement with MTN. We have an existing roaming agreement in the rural areas and we are just expanding that.”
Nope

So their existing infrastructure probably got merged with MTN I assume

Embattled mobile operator Cell C lost 2.9 million subscribers for the year ended December, but says the margin of its existing customers is better as a result of acquiring profitable customers.

Cell C posted further losses for the period under review, declaring a loss of R3.94 billion compared to a R7.36 billion loss in 2018.

It's "doing better". It seems to be moving to the correct path, but its enormous debt is hanging over it.

Note it will probably be a great investment if they sell shares and it's a competent board, spectrum is limited with large margins in the industry.

I haven't done any extensive testing, but their 2G network in my area has been offline for a while. Somerset West.
