Cell C makes R8-billion loss

Cell C has released its latest annual financial results, which show a net loss, after tax, declared at R8.03-billion.

This is compared to a net loss of R656 million in 2018.

Wow, how did they manage this ?

I have a backup Cell C sim in my phone (dual sim), seems to work fine. I use it for outgoing calls, Vodacom at almost R3/min is just not feasible (Vodacom Data Contract, they charge a lot for voice calls).

Also, my gardener and everyone he knows have Cell C. Ok, not big spenders, but they do seem to have enough users out there.

I can tell you a bit of a back story, after the mtn roaming started working I had 0 issues on my side it was working like a dream on LTE, as soon as MTN and cellc said they are redoing the roaming agreement ( when cellc could not pay) I started having 20% packetloss on peak time on cellc roaming on a mtn lte tower, this same tower with mtn sim has zero problems.

So I think you are right they changed the agreement limiting bandwidth on towers or overall network bandwith on mtn roaming .

Sometimes to many customers is the reason companies can go under.

How did they get those customers?
By under cutting the competition in price, but making a loss on every new contract.

Their big tactic was to get as much customers as possible then selling higher, money making packages when they upgrade.
Of course, the customer base Cell C pilfered do not have that much disposable income, and when it came time to upgrade they rather stuck with the contracts that cost the least.

The amount of customers you have mean nothing when you don't sell what you have at a profit.

The network has become **** in the last year for sure but I would still rather have this and save over a thousand Rand a month and then have to fight every month with another provider over OOB
