A few months ago after I finished my studies and found a permanent job I decided to take out a contract for my mom since her cell had just broken. I thought it was the appropriate time for me to do something for her after all she done for me.

I took got her the Huawei P6 when with Cell C. The problem is for months now she cant use the device to make calls or go on the internet without the network disconnecting completely and will only reconnect with a reboot. She spends 95% of her time at home and unfortunately this is where the problems are experienced. I initially thought it was the device but family and friends on the same network experience the same issues.

I am not after money but is there a process where this people can reimburse a portion of the monthly payments i have made for something which you cannot use properly or even just come fix the problem I am done reporting and waiting on the technician now. Alternatively will they allow me to cancel the contract early without penalties.

Just ported from virgin which uses cellc to vodacom. Its like night and day. I know its oversubscribed towers as during December and Jan in cape town cbd I could at least browse using my phone, as soon as people went back to work I could not.

Sadly the problem appears to be Android related. I'm in CellC using a Samsung S5 mini and by brother is on Vodacom using a S4. we both experience these disconnects often, only to be solved by a reboot. I recently upgraded from a S3, running a custom rom (omnirom) which never once disconnected. Many colleagues at work also running non-custom android devices have the same problem... Looking forward to a custom rom being available for my S5 mini.

Why would a Android phone get shocking service on Cell C network but great service on Vodacom network?

If you read my post again... my brother on Vodacom has the same issue with his S4, my wife has an S4 mini on Vodacom too... same issue. I believe it is signal strength related... Android doesn't handle that too well.

Cant say I experienced the same. Soon as I switched back to Vodacom my experience on my phone improved by leaps and bounds. /shrug

Might be related to better signal strength in the area you're in

The funny thing is, where I lived at the time that I was with Cell C, Vodacom had really bad signal at that location. Like 1 or two bars. Cell C had full 3G signal. Guess with what sim my phone was actually usable. Yip ... Vodacom. Mine was definately not signal related.

Going with CellC is a mistake you only make once

+1

The worst part of it all is Cellc is not even cheap anymore. The latest price increases pushed them to be slightly more expensive than MTN so what is Cell'c excuse for congested towers.....

Have also seen those with iPhones experience the same issue. It depends on your signal.

customers signing 24 month contracts before the price increase?

Not sure how that is going to work but even if they do not increase the prices they are still not that competitive anymore. The other mobile operators dropped their prices and are in line with Cellc's prices so I don't think Cellc has anything going for them actually.
