Cell C wants to take back control of its contract customers

Cell C CEO Jorge Mendes says they are busy reintegrating the company’s postpaid business to take back end-to-end control of the relationship with their contract customers.

In January 2021, Cell C surprised the market when it revealed that its contract and broadband subscribers would roam on Vodacom’s network.

Problem is that there is very little incentive for Vodacom or MTN to give CellC customers good service. So they are left fighting with other VNO fighting on price and last time I checked FNB and Afrihost for example didn't run physical stores and could cross subsidise their mobile offerings with their core business therefore allowing them to run much cheaper.

FNB don't have physical stores?

FNB don't have physical stores?
Not ones that sell cellphones only. So they get to apply ALL the massive banking charges, loan costs, etc to offset their rentals. Also they don't hold stock of sim cards and devices in said "store" so the logistics are all centralised. They also don't finance cellphones, have to provide technical support across 90 devices, and multiple "play/app stores"

Yeah, well good luck with that. I closed 10 lucrative contracts and MTN just complied , they did not even ask why 15 year old contracts were being cancelled. Cheers, I WAS your customer.
