What is the deal with Roaming on Voda? I got myself a Cell C prepaid sim to try it out before I commit for 24months. When I drive along the coast to Hout Bay I have no signal, but Vodacom definitely works there.

So what's the deal? Do you need to manually select a network? Was going to try that this morning, but left the phone at home

I am not sure if Cell C still roams on Voda, might be wrong

If the phone is set to "Automatic" for network selection and not forced to a specific band it should switch automatically to Vodacom once outside of the coverage of a Cell C tower.

But if you're worried of getting a dropped call as the phone switches networks, then use manual network selection and leave it on Vodacom. You will get EDGE only.

Cell C's roaming agreement with Vodacom initiated in 2001 was for 15 years.

Works like a charm :) Cell C here I come... Just wonder why it does not switch automatically

You'd think so :p But I have not excluded that fact that I did test it in an old Nokia. What was interesting: When I went back to the spot where I manually checked the, the phone was on Automatic this time.... And then it worked???

What i also noticed is that if you scrutinize MTN and Vodacom coverage in the same area you actually have the same difficulties, just at different spots. I suppose I just trust MTN and Vodacom more because I have had less issues with them. I had one of the first Cell C contracts and it was a complete nightmare... Looks like things have changed though
