In the process of taking out an additional line with Cell C, I already have 1, they wouldn't allow me to add the additional line without a photo copy of the front and back of my credit card, including the CVV number.

Surely this would enable them and their staff to then make purchases with my card as they wish. I refused obviously and instead had to provide 3months worth of bank stamped statements which was a mission.

Is this the norm/acceptable?

very weird..... I was able to get a additional contract samsung galaxy note 2 with no hassle at all. NO documents requested only a copy of my id when the phone came with the courier.....

I also upgraded my first contract this week to a iphone 5 and it was delivered in only 2 days in my hand..... Only copy of my id was asked by courier....

Not sure why you would have to send scanned copies of your cc unless maybe your debit order is on your credit card? Still won't explain why they would want the back of the card......

EDIT: I did it all through 084145

I would enquire about that at their H/O.
Possible fraudster working there.

Cell c shop wanted photocopies of front and back of my card too. I also refused

If you pay by credit card then give them a copy of the front of the card but take some number in the centre out. Give that to them if they refuse then something is fishy..... Why will they ask for that cause its very risky and I'm sure the banks will tell you NOT To DO THAT

I am already a client, I have a debit order with them.

I was under the impression that merchants are not allowed to record/store the CVV number as it along with the card number and expiry number enables card not present transactions.

I'm pretty sure FNB would laugh at me if I had to put in a claim for credit card fraud one day and they find out I've allowed my card to be photo copied front and back.

I might not have too much of an issue with sending them a copy of the back of my card ... but that is because the back of my card is completely CVV-less. I specifically destroy that number as soon as I've committed it to memory :D
