Hi,

For some reason my cell number (which has never been owned by anyone else) is listed on the advert databases under 3 different names so I get called 6-8 times a week by people trying to sell me things I dont want or need.

What exactly are the regulations regarding telephonic product advertisements?

When filling in a form there is a tick box labelled "I consent to being phoned about upcoming products and special deals", so there has to be some regulations regarding this? However, not a single phoner has access to any proof of such consent nor do they seem to be expected to provide it. If you ask where they got the information, you are given the name of a company that never answers its phones or gives you the run around when you query the source of the information.

If you tell them you are not that person, some1 else from the same call center phones you 3 hours later because clearly you were lying about not being said person and they will get the other person at another time if they just call often enough. They never report back to the databases which numbers are inaccurate so the problem never goes away.

This cannot possibly be acceptable!

What can I do to get this stopped, to prevent this from happening in the future, to make the call centers actually follow the rules and have proof of consent before they harass the public?

Use Truecaller ID and start blocking numbers?

As said, TrueCaller is the thing that will kill Telemarketers

So basically the only advice any1 has is bury ur head in the sand and pretend nothings wrong ......

I'll use TrueCaller and thanks I do appreciate the advice but this is not a solution, its a band aid.

Unfortunately it is the only thing you can do at the moment

How well do you know your way around the process of splitting an atom? If not well at all... Yeah. Live with it. Like spam mail... Its a thing you can moan about. But know that moaning about it is as effective as a black highlighter pen.

there is another alternative.

when you get the call assuming you have not blocked it, ask to speak to the manager.
when the person questions why, you tell them you are about to get very very rude, and they do not deserve the abuse.

when the manager comes online you get the company name, the name of the manager, and as many BS details as you can think of.
keep giving them questions, do not give them time to ask any back. after a few minutes, you tell them you are opening a case of harasment against them, and the manager in question is the person you are filing it against.
when they protest, you tell them you have mentioned multiple times that you are not the person they are looking for but they dont stop, so you now have to take it to a higer power, and you will see them in court.

I promise you will never get a call from them again.
