A friend's mother passed away a few months ago, now I hear from her that Vodacom refuses to cancel her mother's mobile contract. Common decency tells me that they should cancel it, but does anyone know what is the legal position in such a case?

Unfortunately my mother in law passed a little while back, my husband wanted to keep the number and signed an affidavit stating this. The person at Vodacom store didn't know what he was doing and didn't assist us with the correct procedure and now the number has been cancelled and "does not exist". This was after he said we can switch to prepaid and we waited the 30 days. Vodacom call centre says it's too late to try and save the number/get it back. Just happened today. Please, is there anything we can do?Please contact 0821946. Inform them of what has happened. They will then request the death certificate and handle it from there. Please do it as soon as possible so that they may handle the account appropriately.
They say the number has been released or something. This was my husband's number for about 20 years. We just didn't know about Deceased Acc dept. We gave the Vodacom guy, who is apparently not a real employee of Vodacom, just a guy who works at the store trying to sell phones. He did not send affidavit stating the situation and to keep number to relevant dept. Nor did he send the Death Cert.
