Yet again I will comment on this k*k network. GPRS has been down for about a week now. It's finally working. A reall sh1tty network. I will be porting soon.

Hi
Just want to check if anyone else started to experience problems using CellC GPRS to browse the internet? I was able to do so last month, but somehow it stopped working from this month onwards.

Basically, after connecting through the dial-up connection, my computer reports that it is connected. However, when I check my sent and received byte totals by clicking on the connection icon, I see that I have only received exactly 204 bytes.

I am quite sure that my access point settings on my phone are correct. Also I am able to browse the internet with my phone's internal browser.

Any help regarding this matter will be appreciated

Cell C uses Vodacom towers so at times it is impossible to have access to this towers. I am using a Huawei E220 and at the evening till late you cannot use the Internet at all it's impossible. If you are lucky you may find yourself on a Vodacom tower that has EDGE that is if it's possible to have access on that tower.

So use Cell C if you feel lucky!!!

So Cell C uses Vodacom's towers and Virgin uses Cell C's towers?? Weird!! I'd say the guys using Cell C GPRS or EDGE should switch to Virgin Mobile. I'm using Virgin until I get my ADSL line and have no problems.. Oh, and they are cheaper. ;)

Virgin uses Cell C towers? that is weird for real coz around the area where I live whenever I use the Cell C sim card I am always on Vodacom towers and if it detects a Cell C tower then it goes GPRS which is very slow.

How cheap is Virgin??

Cell c have their own towers but if the signal is not strong enough then it roams you on to vodacom which give cellc customers last Preference.

IF YOU ROAMING ON VODACOM, YOU WILL ONLY CONNECT VIA GPRS AS THEY OFFER BASIC VOICE, TEXT AND DATA SERVICES, COZ IF THEY ALLOWED CELLC USERS TO USE THEIR DATA SERVICES TO FULL CAPACITY, THEN CELLC WILL NOT HAVE TO INTRODUCE A 3G COMPATABLE NETWORK, RATHER PAY MAXIMIZE ON THE AGREEMENT THEY HAVE WITH VODACOM :D

Remember that when you book onto Cellc network via Vodacom BTS you will only get GPRS speeds , not EDGE..GPRS max speed = 70kbits/s in busy hour this speed will drop to between 30 and 40 kbits/s.
Vodacom only allows x amount of resouces to be used via there BTS.
