I have been getting messages from a woman(I hope she is a woman), and I am trying to find out whose number it is, unsuccessfully.

I Used Truecaller to find the number, nothing
I added the number to my Whatsapp contacts, no clue, no picture
I Googled the number - old references, which are irrelevant
I searched for the number on Facebook, nothing
I tried all those services that want to get you to pay, to show that it is a Vodacom number from South Africa
I tried ringing the number, no success
Somebody else phoned the number, no success

Is there any other way anybody would suggest I can find the owner? This is a tough one.

Why all the hassle..?

Just ask her/him/it to meet up somewhere and if there's a bunch of excuses or no show, then move on with your life..

Maybe try Telegram and Wechat, i.e. other messaging apps? Maybe "she" is registered there?
Are you sure it's a human? Send a cash send, maybe R50 or R100, to that number and check if it gets redeemed.

Try see if the number is registered with Payshap by trying to make a Payshap payment to the number.
Or hire a dodgy private detective that can access some shady databases to see if the number brings anything up.

On ABSA, you have to choose primary bank of recipient as well, so it's probably a guessing game.

I finally found the person's name. Scammer.

I used Sync.me and had to log in via my gmail account online. Sync.me is apparently like Truecaller.

This is a long shot, but you could try load the number as a beneficiary in the Capitec App. You might get a name....

Did you get everyone on your contact list's permission to upload your contacts to sync.me?
