Cell operators close ranks on MNP

Thama Kekana, a numbering officer with the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA), notes that section 4.9 and 4.10 of the MNP regulations, published in September 2005, stipulate that network operators provide a list of ported numbers through a third party or via the Internet.

“The list shall be updated at least once a day,” Kekana adds.

No list, more blatant disregard for the regulations and the regulator.

However, Nicholas Maweni, Virgin Mobile's head of corporate affairs, confirms network operators agreed not to individually disclose porting statistics and to focus on enabling subscribers to port freely.

Do they have a secret handshake as well when they 'jointly' discuss business strategy. Smacks of the 'C' word.
