i am a 51 year old ignorant male who has had the same cell phone number for 16 years with Vodacom. 2 days ago a consultant informed me that I was paying up to R2,60/m. I am stunned, I have never bothered to check this before hand and assumed that I would have a fairly good deal for being such a loyal subscriber. I need some advice on how to structure a deal. I guess I need about 200 minutes with a Gig of data and a new smart phone contract.

Go prepaid. Don't be dumb and lock yourself in to a CONtract. Get a MTN sim and use Afrihost mobile for data or 8ta. Activate per second billing on your prepaid sim etc.

You're supposed to be paying 79c a minute on prepaid in any case so they're trying to screw you further. Contracts rates are higher than prepaid.

Afrihost is only available to MTN contract customers.

Smous, end your contract and start to use prepaid. I'm currently paying 60c/minute with MTN. 1GB data a month will cost you about R150 if I'm correct, which is not cheap, unfortunately.
