Cell phone contract for one year...?

Hay guys, is it possible to receive/or take on a cell phone contract for one year...?
because i mean almost every year cell phone's get updated...and you then end up sitting with an un-updated phone....for @least 2 years....
would MTN, VODACOM,CELL C, VIRGIN MOBILE, offer that for you or ask if one may....?

Voda has a big bonus voucher which is a 12 month pre-paid card that loads airtime every month but no credit vetting and no phone.

I have my contract and my wifes contract separated by 14 months so its basically a yearly upgrade.

wow that's awesome, preferably the reason i asked that i would rather want to have a phone for a year instead of 2 years....by that time it becomes outdated, I've already have my blackberry for a year now and just cant wait for the new released ones to be available...have the 8520....edge is just to slow....
